Privacy
Short version: your writing stays on your Mac. We only handle what is needed to sell and activate licenses. No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
What the app does on your Mac
- Your books are files you save wherever you like. Backups are written to a folder on your Mac (or one you choose, such as iCloud Drive). We never receive them.
- Spelling and grammar checking runs entirely on your Mac.
- Listen downloads a voice model once from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and then runs offline. That download reveals your IP address to Hugging Face, like any download.
- Updates: the app asks GitHub (github.com) whether a newer version exists, roughly at launch and every few hours. GitHub sees your IP address and the app version.
- License checks: after you activate, the app contacts manutius.app every few days to confirm the license. It sends your license key, an anonymous identifier for your Mac (a hash of its hardware ID), the app version, and your Mac’s name (so you can tell your activations apart). No book content is ever sent.
- Claude features (optional): if you use the Claude panel or connect Claude Code, the text you ask about — and, if you allow edits, the parts Claude edits — is sent to Anthropic through your own Claude account, under Anthropic’s privacy terms. Nothing is sent unless you use these features.
- Report a Problem opens an email in your mail app pre-filled with the app version, macOS version and the last lines of the app’s log. You see and edit it before sending; nothing is sent automatically.
What we store when you buy
- Stripe processes your payment. We never see your card number. Stripe shares with us your email address, the plan you bought, and Stripe’s identifiers for the payment, customer and subscription. Stripe’s own privacy policy covers its processing.
- We store your email address, license key, plan, subscription status and activation records (the anonymous Mac identifier, Mac name, app version and dates) in our database, hosted by Supabase in the United States.
- We send license and recovery emails through Resend from hello@manutius.app.
- Server logs (IP address, request path, timestamps) are kept briefly by our hosting provider, Vercel, for security and debugging.
How long, and your rights
We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license is active and as long as tax and accounting rules require afterwards. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at hello@manutius.app; deleting a license record ends the license. We don’t sell or share your data with anyone except the processors named above, and only to provide the service.
Cookies
manutius.app sets no cookies of its own. Stripe Checkout sets cookies on its own pages for fraud prevention and to remember Link accounts.
Children
Manutius is not directed at children under 16 and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
